Celebrate! It’s National Dog Day. Founded 2004 by animal advocate Colleen Page, it’s a day to honor our canine friends with a bit of extra love. Take your dog to the dog park or on an extra walk and let them sniff to their heart’s content. Let them cool off with a wade in a creek or lake, or offer them an extra treat. Dogs make such a difference on our personal lives—listening to our woes, celebrating our joys with us, getting us out for much needed exercise, and being steady companions thrilled to see us whether we’ve been gone...
Tracker Dogs Help Fight Poaching in Conservations Area in Kenya

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust uses trained tracker dogs in the Tsavo Conservation area in Kenya to "to detect illegal wildlife products, such as ivory, rhino horn, bushmeat, guns and ammunition, as well as follow poachers’ tracks." Are you stressed out? Then your dog might be too. According to a new study from Linkoping University in Sweden, " . . .the levels of long-term cortisol in the dog and its owner were synchronised, such that owners with high cortisol levels have dogs with high cortisol levels, while owners with low cortisol levels have dogs with low levels," says Ann-Sofie Sundman of the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM) at LiU, principal author of the study and newly promoted doctor of ethology.
